KidzMed
Kidzmed is a programme developed by Great North Children’s Hospital to support children learning to take their medication in pill and capsule form.
As well as being an important skill for later in life, there are several good reasons for children to learn how to swallow pills when they are young:
- Pills are less sickly, contain less sugar and children who swallow pills tend to have better adherence to their medication regimens
- Pills have a longer shelf-life, do not need a fridge for storage and are easier to transport: all of this is better for the environment as well as easier for you!
- Pills are more commonly stocked or supplied in pharmacies and dispensaries.
- Pills can be prescribed in larger quantities
Download our leaflet for more information on how to help your children with this. It has a copy of the cartoon sequence for children to follow, as well as Top Tips for parents and carers.
Then, when they have mastered it, bring them into the surgery and ask the Dr or Nurse for a certificate!
